Dr. Michele S. Bergen, DMD, MD, FACS‘s background in dentistry goes back 3 generations to her great grandfather in Germany. The daughter of 2 prosthodontists, she grew up in a home office, surrounded by discussions of teeth and treatment plans. She even began extracting teeth in the girls bathroom in elementary school.

Born in New York City, she grew up in West Orange, New Jersey. Dr. Bergen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Rutgers College in three years. While at Rutgers she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She then went to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and received her Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree in 1998. Dr. Bergen continued at UMDNJ in a six-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. As part of her training, she received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2001 and completed a 1 year General Surgery Internship. She completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency in 2004.

In 2012, Dr. Michele S. Bergen, DMD, MD, FACS was inducted as a fellow in the prestigious American College of Surgeons (FACS). Few Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have been selected for this esteemed organization. Dr. Michele S. Bergen, DMD, MD, FACS is also a fellow of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS) as well as the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology (NDBA). She is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), American College of ORal and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS), Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. She is actively involved in dental implant education. She was an Associate Professor at NYU in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry for 5 years, and is now Associate Professor at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 

Dr. Michele S. Bergen, DMD, MD, FACS is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Greenwich Dental Society. She is licensed in dentistry, medicine and dental anesthesia in both Connecticut and New York. She is an Attending Surgeon at Greenwich Hospital and is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, as well as Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

When not involved in Oral Surgery, Dr. Bergen is the proud mother of triplet girls. In her spare time she enjoys biking, scuba diving, and spending time with her family.
